Unemployment Insurance Benefits

Assistance

All unemployment insurance claims are made in NEworks. Our resource room navigators and career planners can assist you in:

  • setting up an NEworks account;
  • filing your initial or weekly claim;
  • scanning documents into NEworks; and
  • assistance with making your resume online and active in NEworks.

Additionally, here is step-by-step instructions for filling for unemployment insurance benefits.

The American Job Center partners with the Nebraska Department of Labor to aid with unemployment claims. We are not unemployment insurance benefits and therefore cannot speak on the status of your claim or eligibility.

Appointments can be made by reserving a computer in our resource room. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Meet with a Representative

Nebraska Department of Labor Unemployment Insurance Benefit staff work in the resource room during normal business hours and can take scheduled appointments.

To meet with a staff person from Unemployment Insurance Benefits, call our center at 402-441-1640 for availability. Scheduled appointments for this assistance cannot be made on our website.

Status of your Claim

Additionally, the American Job Center has a phone directly linked to the Nebraska Claims Center. This phone is faster than directly calling the Nebraska Claims Center at 402-458-2500, as it prioritizes calls from this line.

You can reserve a phone booth beforehand or just drop by. Keep in mind, that while our center does have extended hours, the Claims Center is only open 8AM-5PM Monday to Friday.

Community Resources

We can help you access community resources that support you in your job search including childcare, transportation, and healthcare. Benefits could include Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

Computer Loan Program

We have laptops you may check out to use for your work search activities. They are loaned out for five business days at a time. You must have an NEworks account set up to check out a computer.

Financial Aid Assistance

We can help you explore program cost information for training and education and apply for assistance.

The Resource Center is available to the public Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. All services are offered at no cost.

Phone and Printer Services

Use our resource room like you would your school library or Kinkos (except all our services are free). Use our printer to print resumes and cover letters. Job seekers can also use our phones to call employers, follow-up with Unemployment Insurance (we have a direct line) and can conduct other job search related business.
